Southern Champion Tray
An office renovation and 25,000+ sq ft plant addition for paperboard packaging manufacturer Southern Champion Tray in Mansfield, completed without interrupting production.
Southern Champion Tray manufactures paperboard packaging for bakery, food service, and retail customers in all 50 states and abroad, but the exterior of its Mansfield facility no longer matched the high-tech operation inside. Three contractors proposed solutions. Two brought generic approaches; Nationwide proposed a dramatic modern upgrade to match the state of the art within, and won the job.
The work was really two jobs at once: a 25,000+ sq ft plant addition engineered for heavy equipment and material loads, and a phased renovation of a 40-year-old office building with production running throughout. When asbestos turned up, Nationwide paused, brought in remediation experts, and worked the abatement through every phase, partitioning the air conditioning into divisions to keep dust out of production. The plant side grew to include machine foundations, a scrap reclamation system, and climatization of the existing production space, and permitting cleared in six to eight weeks.
